A Unique IUID Learning Experience

We just finished-up week 4 of the Individual Unique Identification (IUID) series and it has been such a unique experience so far. 

We kicked the series off on May 7 with an overview of IUID and the first steps for entering data into eQuip!  The next two sessions covered the processes of printing barcodes to converting items into assets.  Students have thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on exercises which followed each short lesson.  What has made this training series special from others that I have facilitated is that they have been highly conversational.  Students have been asking each other questions, sharing best practices, and critically thinking about solutions to issues.  This collaborative approach to learning is one of the best ways to impart knowledge.  I am not ashamed to admit that I have learned a lot about IUID from the students!

In session 4 we tackled the tough topic of eQuip! IUID workflows.  I invested a lot of time building the lesson and understanding the nuances of the IUID workflow data fields.  The demo that I presented showed that eQuip! functionality systematically walks a user through the required screens, which ultimately leads to a submission of the data to the government.  Since IUID data varies depending upon the specific material or equipment, I provided students with charts which outlined fields and acceptable inputs.  This will serve as an useful on-the-job desk reference for them.  As a Trainer I feel it is highly important that students are given support documents.  I am proud of the students because they absorbed the difficult IUID workflow lesson and I was pleased that it lent itself to more conversation between them.
Next week we wrap up the IUID series with a session that will complete the eQuip! process of exporting IUID data for submission to the Wide Area Workflow!
